Bears Get First Look At Bronny James In Final Trip To USC

Bears Get First Look At Bronny James In Final Trip To USC

Wednesday night, Cal may make its final trip to the Galen Center at USC and get its first glimpse at Bronny James.

Both the Bears (4-9, 0-2) and Trojans (6-7, 0-2) were routed during the conference schedule’s opening weekend. Cal fell to the Arizona schools twice at home, and USC dropped both games while traveling to Oregon to begin conference play at 0-2 for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

USC Has prevailed In Each Of The Previous Ten Meetings With Cal.

The time of tipoff is 7:00 p.m. The Pac-12 Network will broadcast the final meeting between Cal and USC before the schools’ conference transitions in the following season.

Boogie Ellis, a fifth-year guard, leads the Trojans (who have suffered five consecutive defeats). Ellis has a career average of 18.8 points and has already tallied seven 20-point outings.

Beyond any other member of the USC roster, the freshman reserve guard whose father is a celebrity garners the most attention. Bronny James is the son of Lakers superstar LeBron James.

ESPN ranked him as the nineteenth-best prospect in the country, and he participated in the Nike Hoop Summit and the McDonald’s All-America Game at 19.

The 210-pound, 6-foot-4 player was forced to miss the first eight games of the season after suffering a heart collapse during a USC practice on July 24. The James family later revealed that Bronny’s death was caused by a treatable congenital disease.

James was permitted to resume practices on November 30 and debuted against Long Beach State on December 10. In five contests, he has averaged 7.0 points.

Following his season-high 20 minutes, 15 points, and three assists in USC’s 85-70 loss at Oregon State, he is coming off his finest performance of the year. He has made one appearance off the substitute across all five games.

LeBron James, who has expressed on multiple occasions his desire to play alongside his son in the NBA before his retirement, is not anticipated to be present on Wednesday due to the Lakers’ home game against the Miami Heat.

On Sunday, California suffered a humiliating 71-69 loss to Arizona State, which held a 54-39 lead with less than ten minutes remaining and led by 16 points in the second half.

However, ASU outscored the Bears the remainder of the game 32-15, aided by seven Cal turnovers.

“This one hurts,” Mark Madsen, a first-year coach, remarked afterward.

Despite evident progress in the offseason following a 3-29 record, the Bears continue to fall short in close contests. Six times, they have been defeated by three points or less or in overtime.

With 77.4 points conceded per game, Cal ranks last in the Pac-12 in scoring defense, having surrendered 46 second-half points to the Sun Devils.

Jaylon Tyson ranks third in the Pac-12 in scoring with 19.7 points per game, contributing 3.4 assists and 7.4 rebounds. Six of his interceptions were against ASU. Fardaws Aimaq, a fellow transfer, leads the conference in scoring and rebounding with 10.6 per game and 16.4 per game, respectively.

Both USC And Cal Attempt To Recover From Slumps.

When Cal visits Southern California on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, Pac-12 teams with a 0-2 record will meet.

Last weekend, Arizona and Arizona State swept the Golden Bears (4-9 overall), while the Trojans (6-7) suffered losses at Oregon and Oregon State.

In the second half of last week’s 100-81 loss to the Wildcats, Cal outscored Arizona 55-46. On Sunday, Cal led Arizona State for the majority of the game. Despite holding a 16-point lead in the second half, they were defeated by the Sun Devils 71-69.

Against Arizona State, Cal committed ten turnovers and shot 38.5 percent from the field in the second half.

“We failed to execute in the closing stages,” Cal head coach Mark Madsen said. “That is entirely my responsibility as the head coach.” We must strive to improve ourselves. We shall improve. I told the men that in the locker room.”

Jaylon Tyson tallied 20 points to lead the Bears. Six thefts, five assists, and nine rebounds rounded out his stats. The two thefts fell short of the school record of eight that Jason Kidd established on January 28, 1993, against Washington.

Five of the last six games have been lost by USC, including 86-70 against Oregon State and 82-74 against Oregon.

A positive development that emerged from Saturday’s defeat to Oregon State was the performance of LeBron James’ eldest son, Bronny James.

Bronny James recorded a season-high 15 points in his fifth game back at the collegiate level since his debut on December 10.

He recorded a season-high 20 minutes on 6-of-11 shooting, which included two three-pointers, three assists, and one steal.

He has been subject to a minutes-played restriction ever since July 24, when he suffered a cardiac arrest during practice.

“We are at ease with him playing additional minutes,” said USC head coach Andy Enfield. “And so long as he maintains that level of energy.” I thought he performed exceptionally well.”

Boogie Ellis provided 20 points to lead USC past Oregon State.

The Trojans have not played at home since December 10, when they were defeated by Long Beach State yet to play overtime. They have a home record of 3-2.
